Mathias was created with one goal in mind: to craft clothing that allows clients to express themselves with confidence, tailored for every body. We spend much of our time designing custom suits in Seattle and the PNW, but our mobile service has allowed us to serve clientele all across North America.

​Naming Mathias after his grandfather, our founder finds family to be a big inspiration in his designs. Jemisyn often finds himself drawing inspiration from his Native American roots: bold colors, patterns, and beadwork done by his mother and family. Blending that with his love for English tailoring and their strong silhouettes lead to Mathias' signature house style.

While there is a time and place for boldness, our co-founder Andrew keeps quiet precision and attention to detail at the forefront of Mathias. His interest in history guides the Mathias approach to fabrics and form, pulling influence from the best sartorial ideas of decades past. Jemisyn and Andrew work together to ensure a distinctive blend of sophisticated, unique tailored pieces. 

In an era of fast fashion and mass waste, it's important to be mindful of the environmental impact of our clothing choices. Cheap synthetic fabrics are made from petroleum based chemicals, require excessive energy and water to produce, release microplastics, and take decades to decompose in landfills. Mathias relies on natural fabrics like wool, silk, linen, cotton, and cashmere. Not only are they more comfortable and luxurious, they're also far more sustainable. Natural fabrics last longer, require less cleaning, they're recyclable, and they're biodegradable. Well made clothing may have a higher cost upfront, but will make up for it in the long run. Quality garments are able to be re-tailored or repaired, extending their usefulness. End disposable fast fashion; buy nice not twice. 

To care for higher quality clothing, dry clean only. For certain shirt fabrics, it is okay to hand wash them, or on a cold delicate setting, and hang to dry. You should be dry cleaning your suits as infrequently as possible. This is dependent on your use and the number of suits in your rotation, but once or twice a year is usually adequate. Store your suits unbuttoned to allow fabric to drape naturally. Hang suits uncovered to allow moisture to evaporate. Cedar planks or blocks in the closet will help keep wool-eating moths away.
